6th November  Brian Stoddart & Donald Macgruer Memorial Cup,  Present team4  Veterans &  former players 2.

The Brian Stoddart & Donald Macgruer Memorial Cup, postponed from the normal curtain opener due to weather + other difficulties till the end of season was played on a very calm  early winters day. Team raising difficulties on both sides resulted in both teams fielding guest players. Drew Howie who was out on a bike run and turned up to watch the game ended up playing for the  present . Whilst theVeterans had Craig Nicolson along with three father and son combinations. The Veterans looking resplendent in their borrowed Inverness Caley Thistle strips, though some ardent old firm fan were grateful that the club never managed to acquire their rivals strip for the match . The Veterans with a more youthful combination than in former years, dominated the early part of the play and it was no surprise in ten minutes when a Steve Munro low shot  found the net to open the scoring . The Veterans created several good chances to score, but their keeper Ewen Weatherspoon came to their rescue on a couple of occasions with excellent saves. Then a few minutes prior to half time Duncan Macmillian pounced on a mistake in the present  defence to grab his sides second goal from close in, though the score was justified on their earlier play, at this point both teams were equal in terms of play . With a  two goal lead and a far younger team than previous years the Veterans and supporters were confident starting the second period, but it was not to be, the current side with Drew Howie and Kevin Hunter switched to the middle, dominated the centre line from then on till the end. In the fiftieth minute the ball came to  Sandy Fraser all on his own and his well struck shot found the net. Three minutes later  following a high shot saved by Ewen Weatherspoon from  the rebound the defence were slow to react and Sandy Fraser slipped the ball into the net for the equaliser. Sandy had the ball in the net a minute later but it was correctly ruled out for offside, Duncan Macdonald had a similar event later on . Ewen Fraser then put the present ahead in the sixtieth minute with a fine shot from twenty yards after being foiled by his namesake Ewen on several occasions earlier. Any hope the veterans had was extinguished in the eighty first minute when Donnie Forbes making his debut for the team, on as substitute with his first touch of the ball scored the decisive goal of a rebound off  the keeper from a Ewen Fraser shot. This was a goal made by a fine partnership that began a long time ago when they were both playing in the under 12 and it was nice to see it carried on to the first team. Hopefully next season will see them playing together once more, this time  in the first team forward line .   There was not a lot of spectators present but 66 veterans Teep Macdonald & Kenny Ross found plenty to discuss about the on today's action ,while club president Peter Macdonald yearly excursion on the field of play was curtailed only to a few minutes after being hit on the calf by the ball , some say he took longer coming off the park than the time spent on it .

The match was officiated by former Boleskine  player and retired referee Donald Fraser  to the satisfaction of all concerned

Peter Macdonald presented  the cup to 2010 captain Mike Pirrie and medals to each team and the referee . The winners of the best player medals chosen by Jim Chisholm & Angus Fraser, were presented to Dane Macpherson for 2010 and Ewen Weathersoon  for the Veterans.

28 August  former Boleskine  U14 v  Boleskine   Laurence Parrot Memorial Match

The Laurence Parrot Memorial match  was played on a Saturday night  at six o clock between the Current Boleskine team and a team consisting of former U14 that played together with Laurence between 2002 and 2006. Former U4 team managers Steve & Rod Munro were in charge of the former U14  and Joey Smith and Bob Black the current Boleskine team.   The U14 took to the field  with the majority  of the successful 2004  North division 2 winning team only a  few being absent due prior commitments, whilst the Current team drafted in a former players Mathew Ross & Craig  Pirrie to make up the numbers. The game began at a frantic pace and  the current team had the first chance to score in five minutes when Darren Macleod shot wide from a good position o the edge of the D. The U14  started to control the game after this with good team work and sharp passing beguiled the fact that several of them had not picked up a club for a couple of years and in fifteen minutes after good work by Andrew Sumner and a tussle between Graeme Black and Sandy Fraser.  Sandy emerged with the ball to slip it passed  Peter Tinney for the first goal.  The U14  shaded the play for the rest of the first half with Paddy Bryden dominating the centre, but sharpness in front of goal let them down on a few occasions and their keeper James Fraser pulled of a couple of good saves to keep their lead intact by the half time whistle.  Both teams fortified with team talks from their respective managers restarted the game, the commitment and determination to win by both sides was there for all to see, in a game that was as good and exciting  as we have seen at Smith Park over the years. Each side had periods of ascendency but as time wore on the Current side began to edge the game slightly as tiredness  crept into the U14 not helped that Paddy Bryden had to go off for a period with cramp.  Apparently Paddy and his father Duncan had climbed a couple of  Munro's earlier on  the day,( Paddy justified his cramp with the comment, I don't mean you pair standing on the touchline). Just as it looked as if the U14 would hold out, in seventy five minutes Ian Grant  scored for the Current side from close in to square the game.  Five minutes later Ian Grant had a shot saved by stand in goalkeeper David Fraser and as the both jostled for the ball,  they ended out near the right hand touchline. Ian finally managed to square the ball across for Raymond Roberson  to hit the winner from thirty yards . The U14 with renewed effort stepped up their game and though they had a couple of chances could not snatch the draw they deserved.  An excellent game that was played in a very sporting manor and was thoroughly enjoyed by the large crowd of spectators some of whom were viewing the sport for the first time . After the game Club Chieftain Bob Black handed out medals to all the players, the referee Joey Smith, Steve & Rod Munro to commemorate them taking part in the match.

21 August  Lochaber v  Boleskine Cancelled "someone was on the Spean  park with a tractor, now its unplayable" maybe they were spreading the sand that caused the  postponement ,the first time this fixture was scheduled..

14th  August  Boleskine v  Lochcarron

Lochcarron could not raise a team, points to Boleskine . Appreciated being told earlier save the park being lined. This game was previously cancelled by Camanachd Association to let Lochcarron go to Scottish Cup Final, Ross County v Dundee United

24th July  Boleskine3 Lochbroom 3     referee Bob Morrison

Today's opponents Lochbroom, are one position higher than us in the league by two points, but have three games less played than Boleskine and won the previous game by two goals to one in a close match at Inverlael, so today  we hoped  to gain a bit of revenge. In an evenly entertaining start to the match with both keepers being called upon to maintain the status quo . After the teams settled down  it was Boleskine who looked the better candidates to score with their four young forwards very lively with good movement with and off the ball . In the twenty seventh a low hard drive from the edge of the D by James Rolf  after a pass by Darren Macleod opened the scoring and five minutes later James returned the favour when his pass found Darren Macleod on the LHS and his hard low shot made it two . Boleskine were playing great shinty at this point with numerous chances to extend there lead but on occasion tended to over elaborate in front of goal, resulting in the opportunity being lost, also the keeper and defences last gasp tackles thwarting us at other times. Lochbroom boosted by there managers half time talk and also advantage of the slight wind and rain , took control at the start of the second half, with the home support hoping that we could weather this early storm and get back the ascendency  without losing a goal but it was not to be . In the fifty first minute, Lochbroom snatched their lifeline, a ball not cleared fully from defence was sent back in and found the net, within a minute the visitors were equal as the capitalised on hesitancy and the resulting shot went through the defence into the net. Worse  was to follow as in the fifty sixth minute Lochbroom took the lead , there centreline was dominating play ,with the Boleskine forward line starved of possession resulting in our wing forwards coming to there own half to pick up the ball .  Team manager Bob Black moved Paddy Bryden back to full centre to strengthen the centre of the park, gradually this paid off as Paddy stifled  the oppositions previous freedom in midfield  and brought our wing centres back into play again . Following a free hit on the edge of Lochbroom's D on the seventy six minute Raymond Robertson scored to draw the teams again equal. Boleskine had the better of the game till the end playing some good moves, one breaking  from within their own half Robert Weatherspoon ran with the ball forty yards passed to Raymond Robertson who brought a great save out of the Lochbroom custodian and the resulting rebound just evading the onrushing Darren Macleod  club is worth mentioning .The entertaining game finished as a three all draw ,but If Boleskine had taken their chances in the first half we would have taken both points, credit to Lochbroom for their good come back in the second half as there full centre displayed his keepie up skills . Man of the match for Boleskine was James Rolf his selfish running,  commitment , end excellent forward play at buckshee forward brought the rest of his fellow forwards into play .

10th July  Boleskine 4 Inverness 1  referee Laurie Skuodas

Inverness were our visitors today in a mach that was pulled forward from a date in August, which we would not have the services of our gamekeeper contingent. For some of the Inverness boys this was the second game of the day .  The opening period of the first twenty five minutes was very even with both teams creating only a few half chances and it became apparent that whoever scored the first goal , would probably dominate the game . In the twenty seven minute a good shot by Darren Macleod brought out a fine save from Inverness keeper Allan Macleod then Boleskine seemed to move up a gear and hit a purple patch .  Within a minute from a Darren Macleod pass James Ralf who evaded one tackle and hit a low shot into the net . The thirtieth minute saw a free hit from the centre taken by Mike Pirrie fall to Darren Macleod, he dispatched the ball into the net for the second.  Three minutes later full forward Raymond Robertson hard drive from the left side made it three nil to Boleskine, we dominated the rest of the half but without any more scoring . The second period saw Inverness come more into the game as the centre line fell away and only good work by the defence an goalkeeper Ewen Weatherspoon kept our goal intact . However in the seventy eight minute substitute Paddy Bryden delft pass to Lewis Smith and Lewis low drive make it four nil to the home team ,and all the starting forward line scoring a goal apiece .  In the ninetieth minute a Gordie Gray long high shot  found the net to give Inverness a deserved consolation goal for their efforts .

5th June Boleskine 8 Strathglass 0   referee Ron Kennedy

Today's match was against a Strathglass second team who have had team raising difficulty's all season and today they had twelve players including two of the fairer sex , with team mentor Steve Harvey  as their sole substitute. Boleskine were always in control throughout the game and in eight minutes Lewis Smith collected a good Ewen Fraser pass to score with a good shot from twenty five yards. Unfortunately two injuries to a couple of the young Strathglass players, one facial and a knee injury resulted in them leaving the field of play and with only one sub they had to play with eleven men from midway through the first half.  In the thirty third minute following an exchange of passes between Ewen Fraser and  Ian Grant  the ball game to Lewis Smith on the left side of the D and he made no mistake to make it two. Ian Grant made it three nil to the home side from close in on 45minutes  and a minute later Ewan Fraser got on the score sheet  with a great shot from the right hand side.  The second period saw Boleskine substitute two players carrying knocks Keith Nicolson and Graeme Black with youngsters John Fraser and Darren Macleod and in the forty seventh minute Ian Grant got his brace from close in . Boleskine with the extra man was always in command  and with twenty minutes to play team manager Bob Black  put Robert Weatherspoon on for Ian Grant and moved the spare man up from the back to a more midfield position and in the seventy ninth minute  Lewis Smith made it five nil.  Ewan Fraser deservedly got his brace in the eighty fourth minute ,with Lewis Smith concluding the scoring four minutes later . A well deserved win albeit against a weakened opposition , Ewan Fraser was the star man on the field today with clever use of the ball creating openings for his fellow forwards. The younger players Darren Macleod and Robert Weatherspoon also showed up well when they came on, as did Dane Macpherson who had a sound match at full centre . Praise to the plucky Strathglass team who soldered bravely when down to 11 players, with the evergreen George Fraser denying the Boleskine forwards on numerous occasions.

2nd June   Boleskine  2 Glenurquhart 9 (Strathdearn Cup  2nd round)  referee Ron Kennedy

Boleskine interest in cup competitions for the season ended in a Wednesday night fixture at Smith park against a good Glen team from a division above them . This is the first season the  Association has enforced the Strathdearn cup to be played as a midweek fixture distances between teams permitting, this weakened our line up as a few players were unavailable for the mid week fixtures. If this was to elevate fixture congestion as proposed, the Association should have applied similar rules to the other regional cup competition  the Mactavish  instead of bottling the decision when the larger clubs complained. However back to tonight's game the visitors took the lead in the third minute and were firmly in control in the first half .Boleskine having difficulty clearing the ball out of defence resulting in the centres line playing in their own half  and the forwards being pulled back to the centre line. Only good goalkeeping by Ewen Weatherspoon kept the score down to  four nil at half time . The Glen increased their lead to five early after half time,  before Boleskine struck a purple patch a Darren Macleod pass was dummied by Ewen Fraser and reached Lewis Smith  who from thirty yards wide left sent a rocket shot high into the net.  A minute later a Ben Macpherson shy was stopped by a Glen defender on the edge of the D,  Raymond Robertson latched on to the rebound and dispatched a low drive passed his former teammates to make it two goals for Boleskine. This concluded the home scoring though the team had at least the same amount of play as the visitors the clinical finishing of the Glenurquhart team, plus their movement with the ball was to be admired as they scored another four before the finish.  Boleskine young subs  showed up well in the forward line when they came on, but with the defence conceding 14 goals in the last couple of games and only seven league games left with no prospect of winning the league, perhaps it time to build for next season.

8th May Inverness 2 Boleskine 4  referee Evan Macrae .

Today's match against Inverness at the Bught park, was the first match in over fifteen years since a Boleskine team graced the stadium pitch. Normally it is the outside park that the Inverness second team play on, but this season they too are using the stadium pitch. So for the vast majority of the Boleskine team this was the first time they played on the good pitch, whilst the spectators had the opportunity to sit and watch the game from the stand . Boleskine having the better of the early stages which saw Lewis Smith in five minute denied opening the scoring by a good save by the Inverness keeper who also thwarted Chris Cameron in eighteen minutes keeping his goal intact.  In twenty minutes Ian Grant squandered a great chance to score, having beat the keeper and the open goal at his mercy could not quite finish the job. Inverness came more into the game at this point and just when you thought we would rue not having scored earlier, in twenty nine minutes Raymond Robertson ran on to a through ball and taped it home . Within a minute  Ian Grant made it two and the same player, three minutes later from the edge of the D made it three nil to Boleskine .   Raymond Robertson made it four in the forty second minute and as the half time whistle blew , the visiting support anticipated further goals from the team in the second half .  Inverness boosted by their managers half time pep talk created a good chance in the forty six minute which was not taken. Then eight minutes later Boleskine had a chance to go further ahead when we were awarded a penalty which unfortunately Raymond Robertson put wide This seemed to spur on Inverness and three minutes later they hit the bar with a good shot . Then in sixty minutes following a good save by Ewen Weatherspoon the loose rebounded ball was met by an Inverness player to open their scoring. Two minutes later Inverness were awarded a controversial goal, a shot went past the goal hit the back upright, the ball rebounded onto the field and was met by an Inverness player who hit it onto the net. The goal judge ruled no goal indicating a bye hit, the referee consulted him after protest by home player, then awarded a goal.  Just what is the point of goal judges if the referee so keen to have them prior to the game commencing, ignores them totally when they are in a better position to view an incident than he is.  Boleskine went through a stick patch after this, but weathered the storm to finish the game on top creating a few chances to score.  A welcome return to the stadium pitch securing the two points, in patches Boleskine played well, however the young Inverness team had better teamwork at times and their clean hitting was more impressive than Boleskine's .

1st May Lochbroom 2 Boleskine 1 referee Robert Morrison.

We travelled to the west coast today with only 12 players due to various work commitments and also the holiday weekend.   Although we lost 2-1 the team spirit was tremendous with every player giving 100 % in what was a very physical encounter, indeed another referee might have issued a few cards but Bobo Morrison choose the route of humour and common sense.   A late strike from Lewis Smith made the score 2-1 and with all the pressure we could have snatched a draw, but time run out. Special mention should be made of young Robert Weatherspoon who had an excellent match at wing centre and would surely benefit from an extended run in the team.

17th April  Boleskine 1 Aberdeen Uni 4 referee Euan Pearson.

Prior the start of today's match with Aberdeen Uni  a minutes silence was observed by both teams in respect of Sandy Matheson who had passed away during the preceding week . Sandy who had a long association with club and had served on the club committee on many occasions over the years.  Boleskine in the first half faced an Aberdeen team with a strong wind in their favour, which the visitors utilised to the full and in the sixth minute the ball reached an unmarked Kenny Macleod and he scored with a high bouncing shot. In the thirteenth minute Boleskine had a stonewall penalty claim turned down by the referee after the goal judge had flagged it up .  This was one of the turning points of the match as Boleskine switched off concentration and before they knew it Aberdeen went up the park and scored a second from close in . The remainder of the half Aberdeen aided by the wind had the better of the match, only a good save by Ewen Weatherspoon kept the score to two nil at half time .  Boleskine raced out of the blocks in the second period, after two minutes a long shot resulted in a goalmouth scramble which Ian Grant forced the ball home to cut the deficit to one goal .   The home support assumed this would galvanise the team and they would go on from this, but not to be. In the fifty ninth minute Aberdeen regained their two advantage when a long bobbly shot found the net and six minutes from time added their fourth . Boleskine had second  penalty claim turned down near the end by the referee ,who some spectators thought  from his over elaborate gesturing and body movements  was rehearsing for an act on the Saturday night variety show Britain's got Talent .  Just what the referee 's assessor verdict on his performance is open to conjecture, but as stated previously on his attendance at Inverarnie why send match officials on a four hundred mile round trip, when there are far more competent officials in the local vicinity.

10th April  Kingussie 8 Boleskine 3 Sutherland cup 1st rd referee Ron Kennedy .

Boleskine Sutherland Cup opponents Kingussie, had within their team seasoned senior campaigners such as Kevin Thain, albeit now in the twilight years of their career but able to impart knowledge and guidance to their younger team mates during a game  to the benefit of the team overall . Boleskine went into this game as underdogs ,but in light of today's earlier football Scottish Cup semi final performance by Ross County, aptitude and determination can always win the day. From reports, it was a  typical exciting cup tie with Kingussie leading by five goals to two at half time with Boleskine having three good chances one to one, on  home keeper which they failed to take, whilst the home team also had opportunities to increase their lead. In the second half  the home team scored another three goals to our one, with Kevin Thain notching five goals himself, Dave Borthwick, Martin Dallas and Rory Bothwick the other home scorers, whilst an Ian Grant brace and a Darren Macleod  single replied for Boleskine .

3rd April  Boleskine 3  Ardamurchan  2  referee Graeme Cameron .

Following the resignation of team manager Gus Fraser in mid week, Bob Black and Joey Smith took over the running of the team for today's match against Ardamurchan .  The conditions were mild after the recent heavy snow and the match only going ahead after the shop end was cleared of snow this morning by Joey Smith. The visitors Ardamurchan are a fit young side improving all the time, and in the seventh  minute they took the lead with a high shot from thirty yards by Ewen Mowat . This early setback spurned on Boleskine and they equalised in nine minutes when Ian Grant scored his first goal for the club a well hit low shot from twenty yards. In fifteen minutes following a shy, the ball came to Craig Lindsay lying free on the left side of the D and his snap shot found the net, in spite of a valiant effort by Boleskine keeper Ewen Weatherspoon to save it .  In the twenty eighth  minute a Lewis Smith shot from twenty five yards once again brought the teams level and Boleskine had goal keeper Ewen Weatherspoon to thank six minutes later when saved a cracking shot  for a corner to ensured the score remained the same at half time.  An enthralling first half  with Boleskine playing much better than last week, albeit Lochaber are a far better team than today's visitors . The second half both keepers were brought into play early on Boleskine keeper  looking sharp as he broke up an visitors attack when they were through one on one against him , whilst the Ardamurchan custodian brilliant save from Lewis Smith shot  brought applause from the home support . The second half both teams had good passages of play but neither could get the break through and as the visitors had used there only sub, the home team continued with the starting eleven, even  though areas of the team were starting to flag . Then in the final minute of the match, Darren Macleod  with his never give up spirit won the ball back in the left centre, passed forward to Raymond Robertson, who's first time pass sent Ian Grant through, evading his marker to net his brace and win the match for Boleskine.  A good first win of the season for Boleskine though Ardamurchan will deservedly feel they were due a point for their efforts today . A much needed booster before our away Sutherland cup tie against Kingussie next week .

27 March  Boleskine 0 Lochaber 7 referee George O Rourke

Boleskine first home mach  of the season was against Lochaber, this game was switched from Spean Bridge because of an unplayable pitch. Both teams having played one fixture this season ,Boleskine last played three weeks ago whilst Lochaber last took the field a fortnight ago .  Lochaber after the opening minutes settled down to have the better of the play, with their hitting was far superior to the home side and it was no surprise when the took the lead in the twenty fourth minute.   The game was finished in the five minutes up to half time when Lochaber scored three goals in quick succession. Early in the second half Lochaber increased their lead, then veteran Lochaber forward Angus Morrison made  six with the best goal of the match, a cracking drive from thirty yards .The visitors were awarded a penalty, which they  duly converted to make it seven . A game best forgotten as far as Boleskine were concerned, general rustiness, along with individual and combined errors, resulted in defeat . With the lighter nights beginning next week, the possibility of outdoor practice will benefit better team play and improve performances .

20 March  Boleskine v Strathglass

Points to Boleskine , Strathglass unable to raise team.

6 March Lochcarron 4 Boleskine 1 referee John Sloggie

Boleskine's first game of 2010 away to Lochcarron  was  subject to several late call off's, due to injuries and work commitment's. The position worst effected being the goalkeeper's, where the first three choice candidates were unavailable.  This saw Boleskine take the field with Lewis Smith (top goal-scorer for the last few years) turned gamekeeper rather than poacher, as he donned the goalkeepers attire and with one sub, Ewen Fraser .   Lochcarron made the most of home advantage as the scored early on and by eighteen minutes had doubled their lead . Boleskine pulled a goal back through Raymond Robertson in thirty five minutes and that's how it stood at half time . Lochcarron score twice without reply in the second half to take the two points, leaving us without a win in the opening fixture in the league since the 2005 season.

No friendly's  played this pre season because of snow on park and the lateness in informing the veterans of the Old Crocks match, though we intend to play the game later on in the season. when times are warmer .    Boleskine first game will be against Lochcarron away, the  last game we played was Lochcarron on the 24th October 09 at home in a double header . Fortunately most other clubs are in the same boat and have not played any friendly's' either .  This will be a strong test for Boleskine with a  few changes in player personal, some boys leaving for University, while Kincraig being unable to field a team this year has seen us get a few players from them. Lochcarron having no first team match this Saturday will have a full personal to pick from .
