Saturday 5 Feb Friendly   Boleskine 1 Lochcarron 4

On the first friendly of the season for the new summer season at a snowy Smith Park, Lochcarron took the lead halfway through the the first period and by forty five minutes were leading by two goals to nil . The second period saw Lochcarron increase their lead before Steve Munro pulled one back, however a late goal from the visitors resulted in a win for them by four goals to one . In a good sporting game played in extremely difficult conditions underfoot with frequent sleet showers making good hitting almost imposable, Lochcarron deserved their victory but the Boleskine team competed well and were unfortunate not to narrow the score on a few occasions .

Smith Park 5 Feb

Saturday 11 Dec Boleskine Challenge Cup   Boleskine 1 Glenurquhart 4

Glenurquhart had the better of the opening period ,scoring midway through the half to lead by one goal to nil at half time . Three minutes into the second half, Lewis Smith equalised with a low shot from twenty five yards. Boleskine had the ascendancy at this point but could not turn their pressure into goals and it was the Glen who scored again and went on to run out worthy winners by four goals to one.  Boleskine with a mixture of experienced and U14 players, (playing their second match of the day)  had battled well but Glenurquhart had the better of us on this occasion . Peter Macdonald presented the cup to the Glenurquhart captain and both teams received medals to mark the occasion.

Saturday 11 Sep     Skye V Boleskine

This fixture resulted in the points going to Skye, due to Boleskine inability to raise sufficient players to travel to Skye, because an U14 game was scheduled at Farr against Kingussie and some of the younger players would not reach Portree on time for throw up

Saturday 4 Sep    Killmallie 3 Boleskine 1 .

Boleskine took the lead after 15mins with a rasper from Lewis Smith. Kilmallie equalised on the stroke of half time. The game remained like this until with nine minutes left Kilmallie went ahead and killed the game off with two minutes to go, when they scored their third .  A good performance from Boleskine  makeshift team , with Ali Urquhart outstanding on his second game of the day.

Sat 14 Aug   Boleskine 2 Kilmallie 6

Boleskine got off to a flier when in the second minute Lewis Smith dribbled the ball past a couple of defenders and placed the ball in the net . However this was short lived, when Killmallie hit back in four minutes with an equaliser and from then on their very young team's pace, resulted in the visitors having by far the better of the half, to lead by four goals to one after thirty five minutes. Half time saw Boleskine come more into the game and were unfortunate not to score in at least three occasions, Steve Munro pulled one back in the sixty eight minutes with a shot from twenty yards to raise home hopes . This was short lived as Killmallie scored again in 75 minutes and completed the scoring four minutes from time, to take the points that will eventually ensure the LD2 championship heading to Corpach  .

Sat 31 July  Newtonmore 5 Boleskine 1

In a game played in brilliant sunshine at the Ellan , Newtonmore set the pace from the onset and scored in 15 minutes, Boleskine looked lethargic and have goalkeeper Keith Nicolson to thank for keeping the eager Newtonmore forwards at bay to go in at half time only one goal in deficit . Boleskine came into the game better in the second period and were unlucky not to equalise on a few occasions. However Newtonmore's late substitution of a couple of more experienced players paid dividends, when they secured their second goal in 82 minute. Boleskine countered with a strike from Lewis Smith a minute later, but Newtonmore stormed back adding another three goals before the final whistle.

Sat 17 July  Boleskine 8 Aberdeen University 1

Playing with the wind in the first half the home side were quickly in control with a Stevie Munro double in the 6th and 13th minute.

On the half hour mark Duncan Mackenzie scored Boleskine’s third followed quickly by a brace from Lewis Smith.

Further goals from Mackenzie and Kevin Stewart made 7-0 at the half time and it could have been more with a lot of chances being created.

In the 75 minute Stevie Munro completed his hat-trick and the visitors snatched a consolation goal with 3 minutes remaining.

Both subs Ali Urquhart and Scot Watson were used in the second half and both played well against an Aberdeen side, which had some regulars absent from the team for this match  (Report courtesy of our young sports correspondents " Simon & Alasdair Fraser" )

Sat 26 June    Jubilee Shield  six a sides at Bught park Inverness

Two six a side team were entered for competition, some of the older U14 were given a run out in both teams.  The B team had no scoring draws against Caberfeidh & Edinburgh Camanachd before losing narrowly two goals to one, to losing semi finalists Lovat A in their last group game . Team A beat Edinburgh East Lothian three goals to one in the first game, lost by two goals to nil in the next game to Lochcarron , in the final game against Lovat B  they drew one all to reach the Quarter final stages.  Boleskine A narrowly lost by one goal to nil, against beaten finalists Kinlochshiel in their quarter final tie .   Both teams played well and with a bit of luck the A team might have progressed further in the competition..

Sat 12 June Kincraig 4 Boleskine 6   Scorers Lewis Smith 4 , Steve Munro  , Own goal

In a match that started at 12 noon, due to Association ruling that the referee would  officiate at two games, Boleskine opened their account in the eleventh minute when Steve Munro ran onto a ball, that the Kincraig keeper failed to clear and dispatched it into the net.  Four minutes later a Lewis Smith low dropping shot went through the keepers legs for the second goal. This good start settled the team and they went on to dominate the remainder of the half , unfortunately their good outfield play did not result in any further scoring during this period.  Five minutes into the second period Boleskine increased their lead when a Lewis Smith low ground shot went through the keepers legs for the third goal.  Kincraig  came more into the game from now on and pulled two goals back in a six minute period up to sixty three minutes .   Boleskine fought back and in seventy minutes from a foul just outside the D, the resulting free hit was deflected past his goalkeeper by the Kincraig full back .   Kincraig surged back and within three minutes had scored two goals to pull level,  both goals coming from slack defensive play.  Just when it looked as though Boleskine were going to rue these missed chances in the first period, with a couple of positional changes we started to get control of the game again and in eighty minutes from a free hit played into the D , Lewis Smith latched on to the ball and dispatched it high into the net . In the eighty ninth minute Lewis Smith completed the scoring drive into the net after being put through by Steve Munro. Team spirit showed through after we were drawn back to level pegging , a few weeks ago its unlikely we would pull of a win then . Team spirit , effort and ingenuity were apparent  after the game, as the team battled to gain entry successfully into a players locked car where the keys were tantalising left on the parcel shelf.

Sat  5 June  Boleskine 5 Newtonmore 0  Scorers Lewis Smith 3, James Smith  & Kevin Stewart

A good sound team performance against our opponents in last years Sutherland cup final, James Smith in the eighth minute opened the scoring with a fine back hand shot from the left side, which the keeper made contact with by could not keep out . In thirty four minutes Lewis Smith made it two with a shot high into the net from the edge of the D, Newtonmore's young team outfield play had been good but lacked cutting edge up front. Boleskine started the second half with a couple of personal changes in the line up,  however one minute into the half, Lewis Smith broke through from the wing on his own and placed his shot into the net. In seventy minutes the same player completed his hat trick when from a through ball from K Stewart which the Newtonmore keeper came out and missed his clearance, in the ensuing melee a defenders clearance came off Lewis and ended up over the line for a goal. Seven minutes later Kevin Stewart completed the scoring from close in, overall a good afternoons entertainment in fine weather, as visiting tourist bus from the borders would agree in their first glimpse of Shinty.

Sat  29 May  Boleskine 4 Lovat 1  Scorers Lewis Smith 2 Steve Munro & Ewen Macdonald

A much improved team performance against a well balanced Lovat team of age and youth currently lying second in the league. Boleskine with a couple of personal and positional change from the previous week took the lead in the 15 minute through Lewis Smith. Shortly afterwards Neil Fraser had to leave the field with a bad knee injury and Brett Munro proved a capable replacement at wing back. In thirty five Steve Munro secured the second goal, with a shot from the wing, followed by a good drive from thirty yards by Lewis Smith in forty minutes to put Boleskine three up. After the break Boleskine though a great forty five yard drive in fifty three minutes by Ewen Macdonald, playing well in his second start of the season made it four. In the eighty fifth minute Lovat scored a consolation goal to make the final score four one to Boleskine.  Both keepers played well, Keith Nicolson was calm and assured in the Boleskine goal, whilst the Stewart Macdonald the fourteen year old Lovat keeper played well for the second time against Boleskine .

Sat  22 May Boleskine 1 Kinlochshiel 2  Scorers Steve Munro

The hopes of a repeat of last seasons run in the Sutherland cup were ended by a Kinlochshiel team that took their chances well and their determination and resolve carried then to victory in this first round match at Farr. Kinlochshiel opened the scoring in ten minutes by Neil Fraser and in thirty three minutes from the club of the same player, Boleskine for the third match running found themselves two goals down. Though we had sufficient ball up front the forwards lacked cohesion and any cutting edge and  both the midfield and defence were slack in their play at various periods. The second half started a bit better and in fifty three minutes Steve Munro evaded the visiting defence to slip the ball into the net, hopes were now raised for a comeback that never materialised, though we had several close calls which were foiled by the keeper or just off target. We faced an even more uphill struggle with ten minutes to go  when just as it looked that we were finally dominating the game, that team indiscipline reared its head again and Rod Munro was sent off due to two yellow cards for dissent to the referee . Players will have to learn that on the green sward, the referee is judge and jury and contempt of court does not help you, or your teams cause at all ! .  So with four months of the season still to go, this leaves us with only the league competition left to play in .

Sat  15 May  Fort William 3  Boleskine 2   Scorers  Lewis Smith, Dickie Mackenzie.

For the second match running Boleskine lost to the odd goal in five after drawing level from being two goals down. The three weeks without a game showed, when the team went behind two behind in thirty five minutes, Lewis Smith pulled one back just before half time, then unfortunately had a penalty saved by the Fort  keeper in the second period . Boleskine were awarded another penalty in seventy five minutes which  Dickie Mackenzie smashed home, only for for Fort William to score the decisive goal five minutes later.  Overall a poor team display with only Garry Maclennan excelling in his unfamiliar role at wing back.

Sat 17 April  Aberdeen University 3 Boleskine 2  Scorers  Kevin Stewart & Dickie Mackenzie

In a match that saw leading scorers Steve Munro in goals due to call offs, suspensions and lost car keys, Boleskine with an unfamiliar positional line up went two goals down in a three minute spell in thirty eight minutes. However  Kevin Stewart pulled one back in the forty fourth minute to make it 2-1, in University's favour at the interval. Ten minutes into the second half Dickie MacKenzie now playing back in the centre line, scored with a excellent long shot to equalise . However it was Aberdeen who gained the points, when they scored the winning goal in in seventy second minute, Boleskine changed keeper's in an attempt to get back on level but to no avail, the team played well and the replacements Jim Smith, Ewen Macdonald & Brett Munro did well for their first games of the season.

Sat 10 April  Boleskine  2 Skye  0 Scorer Steve Munro 2

The match was originally scheduled for Portree, but transferred to Smith park due to Skye's pitch being unable to take two fixtures on one day,the corresponding league fixture on 7th August now to be at Portree . Boleskine scored in 25 minutes through a snap shot by Steve Munro the game was fairly balanced and could have gone either way till the same player scored in 65 minutes. Boleskine were reduced to eleven men when Scott Ferguson was sent of with fifteen minutes to go, but the team dug in and saw out the remainder of the game to gain another two points .

Sat 2 April Boleskine v Kincraig

Kincraig scratched from fixture, due to being unable to raise a team, points to Boleskine.

Sat 27 March Strathdearn Cup 1st round Kilmallie 4 Boleskine 2  Scorers Mike Pirrie & Steve Munro

Boleskine crashed out of the Strathdearn cup first round against Kilmallie at Canal  parks in a game where they had the best of possible starts.  Leading by two goals to nil after nine minutes courtesy of a Mike Pirrie first minute strike and a fine individual effort  by Steve Munro, we never quite dominated the game and it was Kilmallie who were looking the more dangerous even after one of their players was dismissed in twenty five minutes, they pulled a goal back in forty two minutes .We started the second half in a more promising fashion but soon fell away again, and in the sixtieth minute the game was level, worse was to follow and two goals to Kilmallie in the eightieth fifth and ninetieth minutes, coupled with Scott Ferguson getting his marching orders late on completed a dismal day out in the Lochaber area . Lack of team discipline was the main cause of our first round exit from the Strathdearn cup.

Sat 20 March Newtonmore v  Boleskine  Adult + U14  matches  postponed snow on park ? .

Sat 13 March  Boleskine 4 Fort William 1 Scorers Steve Munro 3 , Mike Pirrie

Fort took the lead in17 min and looked very lively having the Boleskine defence at sixes and sevens during the early stages and only sterling defensive display by Scott Ferguson kept the score down. The storm weathered, Steve Munro struck twice in 21st  & 25th  minutes to give Boleskine the lead, the second goal was a mazy dribble and a pass into the net , the remainder of the half we dominated but could not put the ball in the net the old failing of over elaborating in front of goal showing through . The second period we struggled to get the conclusive third goal that would have secured the two points and it wasn’t until the 76th minute Mike Pirrie scored, followed by Steve Munro completing his hat trick in 79th minute that we were able to relax.

Sat 6 March    Lovat 4   Boleskine 3 . Scorers Garry Maclennan 2, Lewis Smith .

Disappointing start to the new season , lost early goal to defensive lapse and by thirty five minutes found ourselves trailing by three goals to nil after having  the best of the game to date but rustiness  due to no pre-season games because of inclement weather showing through. Garry Maclennan pulled one back prior to half time , and the same player scored again ten minutes after restart, but Lovat regained their two goal advantaged courtesy of another defensive error. Louis Smith completed the scoring for Boleskine to make the final score 4-3 in Lovat’s favour. The 14 year Lovat keeper had defied the Boleskine forwards time and time again to secure victory for his team.
