ALLANMORE CUP 2007
This year’s Allanmore Cup took place at Glenurquhart High School on Sat 17 Feb 2007. The 6 teams taking part in the round-robin competition were Beauly, Boleskine, Glenurquhart, Kirkhill, Strathglass and Tarradale.
Our first opponents were last year’s winners Beauly. We played well but were denied on a number of occasions by a very competent Beauly goalkeeper. We eventually lost 2 – 0 to a strong accomplished side.
We next played Strathglass in a closely fought game that looked to be heading for a goal-less draw. However Strathglass scored close to the end to snatch a 1-0 win. (though our coaches and players felt it was offside).
Kirkhill were next and they had already won their opening two matches. However our young team had now settled and was showing some excellent linking play. Donnie Forbes in goal denied Kirkhill on numerous occasions with some superb saves. Our efforts were eventually rewarded with Ewen Fraser scoring twice to give us our first win of the day.
Tarradale proved to be difficult opponents and despite some excellent attacking play, we could only manage a 1-1 draw - Ewen Fraser again on target.
Our final game of the day was against Glenurquhart. Yet again our defence was very solid and Finlay Coll in goal kept Glenurquhart at bay. We took the lead after some strong attacking play with a superb strike from Ewen Fraser. Glenurquhart battled hard and scored a well-deserved equaliser with a couple of minutes to go. It was then end-to-end play with our young players showing great determination. This paid off as, with a minute to go, Ewen Fraser scored his fifth of the day for us to win 2-1.
The tournament had been closely fought and
although Beauly were obvious winners with 4 wins out of 5, the other
teams were very tight. It was with great delight, therefore, that we
were announced as Runners-Up. Our young players had played as a team,
showed great tenacity, skill and enthusiasm and thoroughly deserved
their silver medals. Thanks must go the coaches – Ian Hope & Peter
MacDonald – whose dedication and hard work at training every week has
paid off.
WELL DONE

FRIENDLY
Boleskine and Tomatin U12 played a friendly 9 a side match at Farr on Thursday evening 14th September in front of a large enthusiastic support of parents and friends . Both sides acquitted themselves well, considering it was the first game for quite some time and for some players their first ever competitive match. Boleskine ran out winners on the night by six goals to nil , goal scorers were Donnie Forbes 4 , Craig Hepburn and Ewen Fraser .
IACC SIX-A-SIDE COMPETITION
For the second time in as many weeks, Boleskine took part in a 6 a-side tournament at Fort George. This week we were drawn against Raigmore, Strathglass, Tarradale and Dingwall.
Yet again, Boleskine opened the tournament, which is never easy. Despite some good shinty, we lost the game 3 – 0 to Raigmore. In our next game against Strathglass, we found our form and scored with a long shot from Ewen Fraser. Luke Burgess had some excellent saves and we held on to win 1 – 0. Craig Hepburn and Donnie Forbes were unlucky not to score with a number of shots on target.
Tarradale were our next opponents and they were out for revenge for our win against them last week. Unfortunately they proved too strong and beat us 4-0. Although there was some controversy as we felt their fourth goal should have been disallowed. Our final game was against Dingwall who went ahead 2 – 0 . We fought back with some good linking play between Donnie Forbes and Ewen Fraser who scored his second goal of the day. Annie Butterworth and Mark Thomson in defence kept us in the game but we ran out of time and lost 2 – 1.
Our young players, Luke Taylor and Finlay Coll gave a good account of themselves in their first tournament. The team as always put up a good performance and will only gain from the experience of both these tournaments – especially seeing the skill of some of the players from opposing teams.

ALLANMORE CUP
Boleskine took part in the Allanmore Cup 6-a-side Indoor Tournament at Fort George on Sat 21st Jan 2006. The other teams competing were Beauly, Glenurquhart, Kirkhill, Tarradale, and Tomnacross.
Boleskine opened the tournament against Beauly. Despite some good play, Beauly proved too strong and we lost 2-0. We next played Tarradale and, with strong defensive play and a long opportunist goal from Ewen Fraser, we won 1-0. We lost our 3rd game 1-0 to Kirkhill but it would have been more were it not for some heroic saves from Mark Thomson in goal.
Our 4th game was the most exciting. Twice we went ahead with goals from Ewen Fraser but eventually Glenurquhart won 3-2. In our last game, we lost 2-0 to Tomnacross. Annie Butterworth was unlucky no to score with a number of shots going just wide of the post.
Overall, the team put up a spirited performance showing good skill and commitment.
With 20 goals and 4 wins out of 5, Beauly were the Tournament winners with their arch-rivals Tarradale the runners-up.

In the
June 10th U14 Boleskine , Skye & Lochcarron Development league
In the second round games of this league at Portree, Skye and Lochcarron fought out a nil scoring draw in the first match .Boleskine got of to the worst of starts against Lochcarron losing a goal in the first minute, after this we had an equal amount of the play but only a good save by our keeper Danyal Khalid that kept Lochcarron's advantage to one at half time. Early in the second half Lochcarron scored again, we pulled a goal back through a great long range shot from Annie Butterworth with five minutes to go but could not get the equaliser in the time remaining . In the second game against Skye once again we lost a very early goal, we contested the game well but in the second period the home team scored the decisive second goal . A keenly fought competition in brilliant sunshine with the three teams once again showing not much difference between them. Thanks to the Skye club for the arrangements and the very welcome meal after the event .

May 27th U14 Boleskine , Skye & Lochcarron Development league
In the first of the three round robin development league competition held at Farr, Boleskine played Lochcarron in the first match in a nine a side thirty minute game . Boleskine started strongly and after nine minutes Ali Matheson opened the scoring with strike from twenty five yards, three minutes later Ewen Fraser made it two with great first time low drive from the edge of the D. In the second period Boleskine had the edge over the piece with Lochcarron's play improving as the match progressed with no further scoring . The Skye v Lochcarron game ended with a win to Skye by two goals to nil, scoring one in each half .The Lochcarron goalkeeper had an excellent match against Skye pulling off several outstanding saves in a close fought competitive game . In the last match Boleskine v Skye, a twelve a side game the visitors opened the scoring in the fifth minute, then Ewen Fraser equalised a minute later with a smart shot from the edge of the D. In the fourth minute of the second half Skye got their second and though there was close calls at both ends, there was further scoring. A good sporting competition with the three teams closely matched making it enjoyable sport for the spectator, a round of thanks to the Boleskine ladies for the excellent catering they provided on the day.
19 May U14 League C Boleskine 0 Kingussie 10
After a fairly even first
five minutes Kingussie took the lead and their forwards tested the
Boleskine defence on every attack they had . Though during the first
half the team played well in patches, lapses in concentration and
slackness of play were punished clinically by the the visitors, to lead
eight goals to nil at half time . Following the break Boleskine's play
improved and at times possession
27 April U14 League C Boleskine 0 Newtonmore 11
Newtonmore settled the quickest and within the first twelve minutes had scored five goals. Boleskine started to contest the game better after this and had promising moves, but it was the visitors that grabbed another couple of goals before half time .The second half was much more even play but Newtonmore were the sharper in front of goals to add to their total by another four goals , two coming the closing minutes . Once again the team battled on bravely and there were signs of more method to their play the longer the game went on .
21 April U14 League C Kingussie 9 Boleskine 1
Boleskine U14 opened their 2006 season away to Kingussie, their lack of match practice was apparent as they lost a goal in the first minute and struggled to keep the eager home forward line in check .Our highlight of the first half was a fine long range goal by Kevin Hepburn which made it six goals to one in the home teams favour at the end of the period . We had a bit more of the game in the second half with no reward and Kingussie found the net three times before the end . The team never lost heart during the game and a few more matches will improve their teamwork and understanding of the game .

North of Scotland Development Trophy
Boleskine are in a league along with Lochbroom Glengarry, Strathglass and Ardnamurchan
Due to lack of progress in any games getting played the Development Trophy U17 League, it was contested at the Glenurquhart High School all weather pitch as a nine a side round robin competition, with games of 20 minutes duration between the competing teams . In the first game against Strathglass, Boleskine had the better of the play creating several opportunities to score but never took them whilst James Fraser in goals had a good save to earn the team a point. Against Ardnamurchan, Boleskine looked the more likelier to score but as the clock ticked away the match looked to be heading for another no scoring draw, Boleskine's best player on the day Andrew Young, found the net with a stunning shot from thirty yards to score the first goal in the competition after almost three games. A minute later he followed up with an almost identical shot from the same distance to secure victory by two goals to nil . The third game against Glengarry, Boleskine started slowly losing a goal in their opponents first attack . However Sandy Fraser equalised a few minutes later from close in, but it was not to be even though James Fraser denied Glengarry with a brilliant stop, they got the breakthrough a few minutes later to win by two goals to one . Against the tournament winners Lochbroom, though we battled away gamely Boleskine went down by three goals to nil in the final game. John Fraser our change of goalkeeper had a couple of good saves during the match . The tournament which all the teams were evenly matched was run smoothly thanks to all the club volunteers who made the event happen, black marks once again to the Camanachd Association for their non appearance and lack of provision of any changing facilities or toilets for the five teams .
